Google.org has introduced the $15 million AI Opportunity Fund: Asia-Pacific to provide AI skills training for workers across the region. Supported by the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) and the Asian Development Bank, the initiative aims to equip underserved communities with critical AI skills. Selected organisations will offer training in local languages and receive grants to overcome barriers to education.
Building an AI-Ready Workforce
The fund will support existing digital and AI training programs like AI Essentials, AI Startup School, and Google Cloud AI. The focus is on empowering job seekers and small businesses to harness AI for economic growth. Research suggests AI could bring up to $3 trillion in economic benefits to key Asia-Pacific countries by 2030, highlighting the region’s optimistic view of AI’s impact on work, learning, and information access.
Expanding AI for Good Initiatives
In 2024, Google.org plans to invest over $20 million in AI programs across Asia-Pacific. This includes sustainability projects and digital transformation initiatives for NGOs. By fostering AI skills and dialogue, Google aims to ensure that technological advancements benefit a broad spectrum of communities and address regional challenges effectively.
