May 24, 2024AI-Fueled Videos Spread False Rumours About Bishop T.D. Jakes
Recent AI-generated social media videos have been spreading false rumours about Dallas megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes, according to a report by Snopes. The videos falsely claim Jakes resigned from The Potter’s House due to involvement in a lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs, but Jakes remains the senior pastor and continues to preach regularly.
Distorted AI Imagery and Misleading Thumbnails
Snopes identified AI tools behind the misleading videos, including one with over 845,000 views featuring a fake news broadcast thumbnail about Jakes’ resignation. Another video displayed a distorted, AI-generated image of Jakes and Combs, further illustrating the deceptive nature of the content.
Addressing the Unfounded Allegations
Despite the baseless rumours, Jakes has publicly refuted the claims, emphasising his continued leadership at The Potter’s House. In response to recent accusations and a related surveillance video, Jakes condemned the actions depicted, aligning himself against the misconduct. His communications team has consistently dismissed the rumours as false and unsubstantiated.
