March 15, 2024Elon Musk’s US$20K AI Robots: Could They Be The Pacific’s Ticket to a Sci-Fi Reality?
March 18, 2024Pacific Islanders will soon find themselves relying increasingly on artificial intelligence (AI) to make decisions ranging from the mundane to the critical. AI undoubtedly brings incredible advancements, but it is essential to approach it with caution. One of the inherent risks lies in the potential for AI to get things wrong! (Metro, 2024)
When Getting It Wrong, Ended a Once Promising Campaign with a Thud!
Relying solely on ChatGPT for information has its drawbacks, as demonstrated by a recent political incident. In the 2024 presidential race, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis considered a major rival to ex-President Donald Trump, announced the suspension of his campaign using a quote attributed to Winston Churchill. The International Churchill Society emphasised that Churchill never uttered those words. DeSantis, who still maintains presidential hopes for the next election, left everyone looking like a fool because he was fooled… by AI.
Bias in AI: Know the Risks
AI systems depend on the data they’re trained on. If this data is biased or incomplete, AI can make mistakes and even amplify existing biases. For instance, facial recognition tech may not work as well for people with darker skin tones. Users must understand these limitations and question results that seem unfair.
Accountability Means Digging Deeper
AI has a lot of potential, but it’s imperative to approach it with caution. Users should be cautious and cross-verify information from reliable sources to avoid falling prey to misleading or false content. It is important to do background checks and do secondary research on any information you get from ChatGPT to ensure your credibility.
