Snapchat’s New AI Model Transforms Your Background in Real Time
Snapchat is set to reimagine augmented reality (AR) with an upcoming on-device AI model that can transform a user’s surroundings and clothing in real-time based on text prompts (The Verge). This innovative feature allows creators to turn prompts into custom lenses, offering exciting new ways to interact and share with friends. A GIF demonstration shows a person’s clothing and background changing to match the theme “50s sci-fi film,” hinting at the creative possibilities.
Enhanced Tools for AR Creators
To support this new model, Snapchat is updating its Lens Studio with a suite of AI tools designed to make creating custom AR effects easier. The tools include new face effects that transform a user’s appearance based on prompts or images, and a feature called Immersive ML that applies realistic transformations over a user’s face, body, and surroundings in real-time. Additional tools enable creators to generate 3D assets, face masks, textures, and 3D character heads that mimic user expressions.
