Microsoft Unveils AI-Powered Copilot Upgrade
Microsoft introduced an upgraded version of its AI assistant, Copilot, featuring “Windows Recall,” which provides the AI with a photographic memory of user activities on PCs. This enhancement is designed to make Copilot more intuitive by remembering past actions and predicting user needs. Microsoft emphasises privacy, allowing users to filter what the AI can track.
Competing with Big Tech
This announcement comes as Microsoft faces stiff competition from other tech giants. Google recently revamped its search engine to include AI-generated summaries, and OpenAI showcased a new voice assistant with human-like characteristics. Microsoft’s Copilot upgrade is part of a broader strategy to stay ahead in the generative AI market, leveraging its integration with the widely used Windows operating system.
Launch and Availability
The new AI-enhanced Windows PCs will be available starting June 18 on premium models from manufacturers such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Microsoft’s Surface line, with prices starting at $US999 ($AU1497.49). This move is seen as a preemptive strike against anticipated AI advancements from Apple, which will reveal its developments at its annual conference in June.
