Digital Transformation Efforts in PNG
Minister Timothy Masiu emphasised the importance of the 2nd Papua New Guinea Business Regulators’ Summit in advancing the country’s digital transformation journey, reports the Post-Courier. The summit, themed “Interoperability; Connect and Co-create,” focused on aligning PNG’s strategies with global best practices, particularly in e-commerce and digital governance, as well as artificial intelligence.
Global Examples of Digital Success in AI and the Digital World
Masiu pointed to international models like India’s Digital India initiative, Australia’s Digital Transformation Agency, and Singapore’s Smart Nation as benchmarks for PNG. China was also cited as a very excellent example of the modernisation of the digital world through artificial intelligence. These countries have successfully integrated digital identities and user-centric designs into government services, showcasing the importance of robust digital frameworks.
PNG’s Progress and Future Vision:
Over the past four years, PNG has made significant strides in digital transformation, including the implementation of key policies like the Digital Transformation Policy 2020 and the Digital Government Act 2022. Masiu stressed that interoperability in digital systems will boost business activities, support MSMEs and SMEs, and ultimately improve the livelihoods of PNG citizens.
