August 19, 2024PNG STEM Students Embark on Global Educational Journey
Prime Minister James Marape congratulated 30 outstanding STEM students from Papua New Guinea (PNG) as they departed for India on government scholarships, reports the Post-Courier. These students, who excelled in their Grade 12 studies at the six national schools of excellence, will pursue advanced education in fields such as Artificial Intelligence, biotechnology, and aerospace engineering. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the PNG government to create global opportunities for its talented youth, with additional students set to travel to the USA and China in the coming months.
Expanding Global Opportunities
The PNG government’s commitment to education is further highlighted by the expansion of the STEM scholarship program. Prime Minister Marape emphasised the importance of this initiative, which has already seen 43 students from the 2022 program secure placements in US universities. The government is now exploring additional scholarship opportunities in countries like Hungary, Australia, and Indonesia, with a particular focus on expanding access to international education for PNG’s youth.
A Vision for PNG’s Future
Prime Minister Marape’s efforts to establish the six national schools of excellence and the STEM program demonstrate his dedication to fostering education and creating international opportunities for PNG students. The government is committed to ensuring that every Grade 12 graduate, whether from traditional schooling or distance education, has the chance to further their education abroad. This initiative not only reflects the government’s support for education but also its broader vision of empowering PNG’s next generation on the global stage.
