Superintendent of Police (SP) Josua Neilesu is nearing the end of the 48th International Senior Police Officer’s Command Course (Middle Level) Series 1/2024 at the Royal Malaysia Police College in Kuala Lumpur (Police.gov.fj). The course, which began on July 15, will conclude on August 2. A key component of the course involved SP Neilesu presenting on “Regulatory Frameworks for Artificial Intelligence (AI): The Leadership Perspective.”
ASEANAPOL’s Support and Fiji’s Participation
The Fiji Police Force (FPF) has benefited from ASEANAPOL’s support for this training. The FPF, which holds observer status with ASEANAPOL, has had access to valuable educational opportunities like this course, strengthening international policing collaborations. Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew of Fiji is also an alumnus of the Royal Malaysia College, having attended the course in 2012.
Focus on AI a Welcome Development to the Region
As one of the first Pacific Island nations to proactively examine and educate themselves on how to deal with the major expected shift in online crime and the use of AI by criminal elements, this is the type of leadership that the Pacific Islands should follow and emulate.
