The official statement from the Online Safety Commissioner of Fiji, Filipe Batiwale. (Source: Online Safety Commission Facebook)
The Online Safety Commission (OSC) Fiji is intensifying efforts to address the rising tide of online abuse and technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) affecting individuals and families across Fiji. The Fiji Times reports that, in response to growing public demand for greater support and presence across the country, the OSC has announced the opening of a new office in the Western Division.
A Growing Need for Online Safety
The OSC’s expansion aims to improve access to online safety services for communities outside of Suva. The commission continues to collaborate with the Fiji Police Force under an existing memorandum of understanding to ensure victims of online abuse, particularly vulnerable and marginalized communities, receive timely support and justice.
Partnerships to Address Cybercrime
The OSC has partnered with the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to address the growing presence of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), including AI-generated content. The OSC remains committed to protecting Fijian children in the digital environment through coordinated efforts with law enforcement and international organizations.
Editor’s Comment:
Looks like Fiji’s not letting the digital world run wild! The Online Safety Commission is stepping up like a superhero to fight online abuse—if only they could do the same for my inbox! But hey, they’re making the digital world safer, one pixel at a time.
