Face-Swapping AI Used in “Pig Butchering” Scam
A new AI-driven scam known as “Pig Butchering” has emerged, where cybercriminals use AI face-swapping technology to deceive victims, reports Shield and Fortify. These scams involve fraudsters using AI to swap faces on videos or photos, convincing victims that they are interacting with a trusted individual. The sophisticated tactics are particularly devastating, as victims are manipulated into sending large sums of money to the scammers, believing they are helping a loved one or acquaintance.
Growing Concerns Over AI’s Role in Cyber Fraud
The use of face-swapping AI in scams raises alarm about the increasing potential for artificial intelligence to facilitate fraud. Experts warn that while AI can bring benefits, it also enhances the abilities of scammers, urging the need for stronger protections and public awareness.
Editor’s Comment: The biggest problem with this scam is that it’s called ‘pig butchering’ and it won’t get the attention it deserves… when in reality, it’s another version of deep fake cyber-crime with a different mask!
