Another AI Candidate strikes again, this time in America! Wyoming man Victor Miller shows up with ‘Vic’
AI Meets Politics (again): Wyoming Hopeful Joins the AI Candidacy Craze
In only the second time this year, an AI character named VIC in the Cheyanne, Wyoming mayoral race. Inspired by his favourite sci-fi books, Miller created VIC using ChatGPT to potentially revolutionise local governance, reports The Sun. The AI, designed to handle public records and answer questions, represented a bold experiment in integrating AI into democratic processes. Despite its advanced data-handling capabilities, VIC’s campaign did not succeed, garnering only 327 votes out of about 11,000 cast.
A New Political Frontier in the US
Miller’s vision for VIC was to handle executive duties while he managed in-person events, suggesting a future where AI could play a significant role in governance. The idea sparked debate among experts and residents alike. Some viewed VIC’s candidacy as a daring step into the future, while others saw it as an experiment that tested the limits of local regulations and AI’s role in politics.
Challenges and Controversies: VIC, the Talk of the Town
Despite the innovative approach, VIC’s campaign faced challenges, including policy restrictions from ChatGPT and scepticism about AI’s capacity for empathy and decision-making. The current mayor, Patrick Collins, retained his position with a decisive majority. Miller remains undeterred, expressing his commitment to continue exploring AI’s potential in politics, regardless of the setbacks.
