Autonomous AI Agents: A New Era by 2025
Capgemini predicts that by 2025, autonomous AI agents capable of communicating with each other will be operational. Pascal Brier, Capgemini’s chief innovation officer, highlights the emergence of “multi-agent AI,” where AI agents collaboratively solve tasks. For example, a marketing AI agent could autonomously work with a legal AI agent to ensure an ad campaign’s compliance with regulations. Unlike traditional AI, these agents can plan, adapt, and execute complex workflows with minimal human oversight.
Rapid Adoption and Integration
A recent Capgemini report, “Harnessing the Value of Generative AI,” reveals that 82% of surveyed companies plan to integrate AI agents within one to three years, with only 7% having no such plans. The research involved over 1,100 companies, each with revenues exceeding $1 billion. Brier notes that the U.S. leads in this technological advancement, while Europe is trailing. The report also indicates that AI agents will facilitate automation and relieve human workers from repetitive tasks, allowing them to focus on more valuable functions.
Generative AI Adoption Trends
The adoption of generative AI has significantly increased, with 24% of firms integrating it into their operations in 2024, up from 6% in 2023. Larger companies, particularly those with revenues over $20 billion, are leading this trend, investing more heavily and conducting extensive generative AI experiments. However, smaller firms are slower to adopt. Industry-wise, aerospace and defence sectors show the highest investment in generative AI at 88%, while retail lags at 66%.
