AI Bots Conquer Traffic-Image CAPTCHAs
Recent research has shown that AI bots can now defeat 100% of Google’s traffic-image CAPTCHAs, outperforming previous methods that had only a 68-71% success rate, reports Ars Technica. Using a fine-tuned version of the YOLO image-recognition model, which was trained on 14,000 traffic images, the AI can accurately identify objects in CAPTCHA grids, including traffic lights and fire hydrants. Additional tactics such as VPNs and simulated mouse movements were employed to evade detection. This marks a significant development, suggesting that CAPTCHA systems are no longer a reliable human verification method as AI continues to advance.
Editor’s Comment: Pacific Island IT in general is often a step behind First World nations. This means we have more vulnerabilities and thus require even more diligence in the ongoing battle of good vs. the criminal mind now augmented with AI.
