AI to Shift Student-Teacher Knowledge Dynamics
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has stated that advancements in AI will soon lead to students becoming more knowledgeable than their teachers, reports FijiVillage. Speaking at the Fiji Principals Association Conference, he noted that students are increasingly adapting to AI tools and digital resources, allowing them to fact-check their teachers in real-time.
AI’s Impact on Job Markets and Education
Professor Prasad also highlighted that many current university degrees may soon become outdated due to AI’s rapid growth. He believes AI-powered systems, such as Large Language Models, will replace numerous jobs within a decade, fundamentally altering the way students should be trained for the future workforce.

Addressing school principals, Professor Prasad urged them to stay at the forefront of these AI-driven changes. He emphasised the importance of reshaping the education system to prepare students for a world where AI will play a central role, ensuring Fiji’s institutions catch up with global advancements.
