Fiji’s High Internet Penetration
A recent report titled The State of Artificial Intelligence in the Pacific Islands, published by the AI Asia Pacific Institute, reveals that 85.2% of Fiji’s population is online; reports the Fiji Times. This high internet penetration reflects significant digital engagement in the country. The report highlights the increasing role of digital technology in Fiji’s economic and social landscapes.
National Digital Strategy Approved
In December 2023, Fiji’s Cabinet approved a National Digital Strategy aimed at driving economic growth and sustainable development. The strategy will coordinate the expansion of digital technology and provide policy certainty to boost innovation and private sector investment. It will be supported by an Action Plan that details its thematic areas and implementation steps.
Digital Transformation Initiatives
Fiji is also advancing its digital infrastructure through the DigitalFIJI program, a four-year initiative focused on enhancing ICT infrastructure and developing government digital capabilities. This program aims to implement various government applications and strengthen digital transformation efforts across Fiji.
