Fiji’s AI Readiness Ranking
Fiji has been ranked 96th out of 193 countries on the Government AI Readiness Index, according to a report from the AI Asia Pacific Institute based in Singapore, the Fiji Times reports. The index assesses countries’ capabilities to deploy AI in public services based on AI strategy, technology sector innovation, and data infrastructure.
Regional Disparity in AI Development
The report highlights a significant disparity in AI readiness between Pacific Island nations and more developed countries like Australia and New Zealand. Fiji, along with Nauru, are the only Pacific nations in the top 100, with most others ranking lower due to challenges like small populations and geographical isolation.
Data Collection Challenges in the Pacific
The report also points out difficulties in data collection across the region, with seven Pacific islands excluded from the index due to a lack of available data. This highlights ongoing challenges in tracking and improving AI readiness in the Pacific.
