August 23, 2024New Enrollment Kits to Speed Up Registration Process
The Papua New Guinea Civil and Identity Registration (CIR) office has received 20 advanced Laxton mobile enrollment kits, designed with AI technology to enhance registration efficiency, reports the National. According to CIR consultant Kyle Wakos, these kits offer significant improvements, reducing the registration time to seven minutes for adults and three minutes for children. The portable nature of the kits, complete with solar panels for charging, makes them ideal for the challenging rural conditions where power sources are scarce.
Addressing Challenges with Innovation
The development of these kits began in 2022, driven by the difficulties faced with older versions. Previously, CIR teams had to carry heavy equipment and fuel, often trekking for days to reach remote communities. The introduction of AI in the new kits has streamlined the process, making it faster, more cost-effective, and better suited to the needs of Papua New Guinea’s diverse landscape.
A Custom Solution for Local Needs
Wakos emphasised that this innovation was a local initiative, conceptualised by the CIR team and brought to life by inventors. The new kits have successfully addressed the unique challenges of registering citizens in remote areas, marking a significant step forward in the country’s civil registration efforts.
