The Indian government is considering labelling and watermarking AI-generated content to combat the misuse of synthetic content, such as deepfakes, which can amplify misinformation and disrupt democratic processes like elections. This was discussed at the ‘Global IndiaAI Summit’ in New Delhi, where IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Secretary S Krishnan emphasised the importance of policy-making and creating safeguards against AI misuse.
