July 11, 2024WhatsApp’s Innovative AI Feature
WhatsApp is developing a new AI feature called “Imagine” that will allow users to create personalised avatars in various settings. This feature, found in the WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.24.14.7 by WABetaInfo, combines user-supplied images, text prompts, and Meta’s AI Llama model to generate the avatars. Users can imagine themselves in different environments, from forests to outer space, similar to other AI generators like Lensa AI or Snapchat’s “Dreams.”
Creating Personalized Avatars
To use the feature, users must take photos of themselves, which will be used to train Meta AI to produce images in their likeness. They can then generate their avatars by typing “Imagine me” followed by a description of the setting in Meta AI chat or other WhatsApp conversations using “@Meta AI imagine me…”. The feature is optional and requires manual activation in the settings. Users can also delete their reference images anytime via the Meta AI settings.
Launch and Availability
There is no set date for the general availability of the Imagine AI feature. WhatsApp is still rolling out its Meta AI chatbot and real-time AI image generation for users in the US. Meta aims to proceed cautiously with this launch due to past issues with generative AI tools.
