In response to the controversy, Funke magazines issued a public apology to Schumacher’s family and dismissed Anne Hoffmann, the chief editor of Die Aktuelle. Bianca Pohlmann, Funke’s managing director, condemned the article as “tasteless and misleading,” stating it did not meet the publisher’s journalistic standards.
