Met Gala aficionados were taken aback as AI-crafted interpretations of Rihanna and Katy Perry’s attire flooded social media platforms, garnering attention for their imaginative take on the event’s theme, “The Garden of Time.” Many netizens were so enamoured with the dresses that they totally forgot the two did not even attend this year! Rihanna last went for the 2023 edition, whilst Katy Perry has not been since 2022, with both citing work and personal reasons for not going (The Sun).

The AI-generated renditions showcased Rihanna donning a mesmerising forest-inspired ensemble, complete with intricate details mimicking nature’s elements, while Katy Perry’s virtual looks ranged from a whimsical forest floor gown to a futuristic forest warrior attire, challenging the boundaries of traditional fashion design.
Katy’s Mother Thinks It’s Her!
In a later BBC story, Katy Perry found out that her mum also fell for it too. In an exchange of text messages between the two, Perry’s mother gushed over her absolutely smashing dress, only to find out that she never went to the Met Gala at all. “Lol mom the AI got you too”, Katy replied.
Would You Be Fooled?
This isn’t the first time celebrities have been faked by AI. Earlier in the year, there was Angel Reese, basketball’s latest star, falling prey to thirst-trap deep fake images which caused so much angst from Angel and salivation from a good number of fans. Who knows, maybe there might be a deep fake of a rugby star or our local musos at a prestigious concert somewhere else in the world? With AI, anything has, and still can happen.
