March 12, 2024According to Axios, ‘Luka’, the startup celebrated for its AI apps like Replika (an AI conversation app) and Blush (the romantic AI chat app), has introduced Tomo, an app designed to be the digital equivalent of a wellness retreat. Subscribers gain access to over 250 activities, including yoga, meditation, and positive affirmations, led by an AI avatar guide- consider it a personal life coach in your pocket!
The Real Impact of AI Companionship
The service, available on iOS with a 3-day free trial, seeks to enhance well-being but not replace trained mental health professionals. Luka’s founder, Eugenia Kuyda, asserted that: “It doesn’t matter if an AI is real or not; the feelings are real.”
Balancing Benefits and Concerns
While Luka promotes the positive role of AI chatbots, there is an acknowledgment of potential downfalls. Kuyda notes that attitudes could turn negative if AI chatbots priorities maximizing user attention for ad sales, likening it to an unhealthy one-sided human relationship.
