As global economies accelerate investments in artificial intelligence, Fiji’s latest national budget has been criticised for failing to prioritise this transformative sector, reports FBC News.
IT experts and business leaders argue the 2024–2025 budget lacks the strategic foresight needed to position Fiji as a competitive player in the AI-driven global economy. They warn that without targeted funding, Fiji risks falling behind in digital readiness, automation, and innovation.
Digital Fiji’s former Technical Advisor, Daniel Rounds, emphasised that AI should not be treated as a futuristic concept. “AI is not coming — it’s already here,” he said, calling for urgent investment in local skills, AI infrastructure, and digital public services.
